If you’re studying for the PTE Academic test, you’ll need to get familiar with the different types of questions it has. Did you know there are seven different types of questions in the PTE Academic test? They’re designed to test your English-language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Here’s a quick guide to help you become familiar with the types of questions you can expect to see on the test.

  • Multiple-choice, choose single answer: This type of question requires you to select one answer from the multiple options provided. The questions are based on a single reading or listening passage.
  • Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers: Similar to the first type, this question also draws from a single reading or listening passage and requires you to select two or more answers from the multiple options.
  • Re-order paragraphs: This type of question asks you to correctly organize a set of paragraphs within a single text. To do this, you must read the individual text blocks, identify the main points discussed, and understand the flow of ideas to answer the question correctly.
  • Fill in the blanks: The fill-in-the-blank question type requires you to complete a given sentence. This type of question tests both your reading and writing skills, as you must be able to recognize the correct word to fill in the blank and also complete the grammar correctly.
  • Highlight the correct summary: Questions of this type require you to write a summary of the entire passage. You must evaluate the passage, extract the most important details, and compose them into a concise, comprehensive summary.
  • Multiple-choice, read, write, list from options: This type of question tests both your reading and writing skills, as you’ll need to read the question then list out all the answers. You must also use the correct vocabulary and grammar in your responses.
  • Write from dictation: The write-from-dictation question tests your listening skills. You’ll hear a sentence or passage over headphones, and you must transcribe it as accurately as possible while adhering to the provided spelling and grammar rules.
