First to know what is PTE?? Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is an international computer-based English language test. It provides a measure of a test taker’s language ability to assist education institutions and professional and government organizations that require a standard of academic English language proficiency for admission purposes.

📌 PTE academic report shows the overall ability of two sections.
- Communicative skills
- Enabling skills
✅ Communicative skills scores:
The communicative skills measured are listening, reading, speaking and writing. Items testing these communicative skills also test specific subskills. The score range for each skill is 10–90 points.
Note: the overall score is not an average calculation of the communicative scores.
✅ Enabling skills scores :
Enabling skills are reported so that test takers can understand areas of strength and areas for improvement in their language ability. The enabling skills are grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and written discourse. Enabling skill scores are summaries of a test taker’s performance on different aspects of language that are scored in different item types.
📌 Item Scoring
There are two types of scoring in the PTE exam.
✅Correct or incorrect: Here if your responses are correct a score of 1 score point will be given, but if they are incorrect, no score will be given.
✅ Partial credit: In partial credit, if responses are correct, the maximum score point will be given but if they are incorrect, some points will be given which will be less than the maximum points.
PTE is divided into major three parts. The overall score is based on performance on all test items (tasks in the test consisting of instructions, questions or prompts, answer opportunities and scoring rules). Each test taker will answer between 71 and 83 items in any given test and there are 20 different item types. For each item, the score given contributes to the overall score. The score range is 10–90 points. Each part has a different time division.
✅ Speaking and writing 77 to 93 minutes
✅ Reading 32 to 41 minutes
✅ Listening 45 to 57 minutes
📌Part 1:Speaking and Writing:
This section consists of 7 items where 5 items for speaking and 2 items for writing . They are,
✅ Read aloud: Here you will have to answer 6 to 7 questions. The scoring pattern will be partial and your reading and speaking, oral fluency, pronunciation of the content.
✅ Repeat sentence: Here you will have 10-12 items, scoring will be partial and your listening,speaking, oral fluency and pronunciation will be examined.
✅ Describe image: 6 to 7 items will be given, partial scoring and speaking fluency, pronunciation will be measured.
✅ Re-tell lecture: 3 to 4 items with partial scoring and listening ,speaking, oral fluency and pronunciation will be measured.
✅Answer a short question: 10 to 12 items. Correct/ incorrect scoring. Listening and speaking vocabulary.
✅ Summarize written text: 2 to 3 items and you will get 20-30 mins with partial scoring and measuring the reading and writing , grammar, vocab, content and form.
✅ Write essay: 1 -2 items , 20- 40 mins will be given, scoring will be partial.
📌 Part 2: Reading
PTE Reading section includes the following topics:
✅ Reading & Writing – Fill in the Blanks: A piece of this item includes a text with several gaps. Words from the boxes need to be dragged below to fill the gaps.
✅ Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers: A text needs to be read and afterwards a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text needs to be answered by selecting more than one response.
✅ Reorder Paragraphs: A piece of this item is demonstrated as several text boxes appearing on the screen in random order. The text boxes need to be put in the correct order.
✅ Reading – Fill in the Blanks: An item of this topic contains a text with several gaps. Words from a given box should be dragged below to fill the gaps.
✅ Multiple Choice, Choose Single Answer: A text is shown for reading. After reading the text a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text needs to be answered by selecting one response.
📌 Part 3 : Listening:
There are two section in Listening
✅ Section 1: There is one topic
Summarize Spoken test: 2-3 question
✅ Section 2 : There are 7 topic 23-28 minutes
MCQ Single answer – 2-3 questions
MCQ Multiple answer– 2-3 questions
Highlight correct summary– 2-3 questions
Highlight Incorrect word- 2-3 questions
Fill in the blanks– 2-3 questions
Select missing words– 2-3 questions
Write from the Dictation– 3-4 questions
2 to 3 questions will be under each item, and some of them will be correct/ incorrect scoring and Some are partial scoring. Listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling content will be measured.
